Lerøy Midt in the Construsoft BIM Awards

The salmon processing facility for Lerøy Midt at Hitra is an entry in the Construsoft BIM Awards, in the industrial projects category. The entry was submitted by Constravia of Poland, who detailed the structural system in Tekla Structures.
The Construsoft BIM Awards is an international competition for projects modelled in Tekla Structures. Constravia Sp. z o.o. submitted the facility with Øystein Thommesen AS as architect and Lerøy Midt AS as client.
The entry describes a 6,800 m² facility with integrated warehouse and a 1,200 m² office section. The structural system is composite - precast concrete, steel beams and a complex roof structure - and nearly all the precast elements were unique. 540 production drawings and around 70 assembly drawings were produced, and over 800 temporary supports were modelled for the assembly.
Constravia specifically mentions the pressure from the architect to minimise cross-sections in a coastal climate with strict concrete cover requirements - a challenge solved through precise positioning of reinforcement and steel details in the model. To us, the entry shows the value of multidisciplinary BIM collaboration in large industrial projects, where architect, structural engineer and technical disciplines work in the same model environment.
