Honourable mention at the Trondheim Energy Prize 2018

The City of Trondheim's energy prize for 2018 was awarded at Rådhussalen on 8 November. KIWI Dalgård received an honourable mention, and we congratulate NorgesGruppen Eiendom on the recognition.
The energy prize is the City of Trondheim’s award of honour for businesses, projects or individuals leading the way with forward-looking solutions for reduced emissions and more efficient energy use. This year’s prize went to ASKO Midt-Norge for their hydrogen project. An honourable mention was awarded to NorgesGruppen Eiendom Midt-Norge AS and Dalgård AS for KIWI Dalgård.
The jury highlights the neighbourhood perspective. Surplus heat from the store’s refrigeration is distributed to 60 apartments in the adjacent building via a heat pump and energy wells, with the wells acting as a battery for storing heat. “This is a way of energy collaboration the jury would like to see more of in the years ahead,” the citation reads.
The jury also commends the building-integrated solar cells - 579 m² across roof and facade - and the refrigeration solutions. In total, the store purchases 41 per cent less energy than a comparable KIWI store. The building is a passive house with extensive use of timber and low-carbon concrete.
