About us

Thommesen Arkitekter is an architecture firm in Trondheim, founded in 1964. The firm is family-owned, and the third generation works here today.

We design industrial buildings, production facilities, commercial buildings, housing, research facilities and data centres for industry, business, housing developers and public clients. Our longest experience is with seafood, aquaculture, dairy and food production.

Scope

Commissions include new buildings, extensions and conversions, both small and large. Many of the buildings remain in use while they are rebuilt, and the work is planned in stages so that operations can continue as normal. Most production facilities are extended several times after they are put into operation. The firm holds central approval as responsible applicant and architect in class 3.

Experience

TINE and Siva are among the clients who have come back with new facilities and extensions over several decades, and the firm has followed TINE Dovre since the 1970s. Outside Norway the firm designed facilities in countries including Nigeria and Portugal in the 1970s and 1980s.

What sets us apart

We shape the floor plan around how the building will be used. In a production facility the production line decides, in a shop the goods delivery and customer flow, and in a home the daily life of the people who live there. Our experience with flow and logistics in production facilities is also used in commercial buildings and housing.

Collaboration

We work with the client, consulting engineers, suppliers and the municipality from the first sketch. Technical solutions, equipment and zoning are clarified while the project can still be changed. The same people follow the project through every phase, so the client has the same contacts throughout.
